Quick Notes with AppleScript and TextMate

WARNING: NERD POST AHEAD

Merlin showed off his sexy URL scheme and TextMate bundle to create a new datestamped TextMate file in his Elements folder. I use something similar powered by AppleScript and FastScripts to give me a global hotkey. Drop the following script into Script Editor, change _path to a path to a folder you care about, and save it.

Then, whenever you run it, it will ask you for a title. Enter a title and click OK, and you’ll get a file with that name inside the folder you specified, complete with that same name as a Markdown title inside the note.

Note

Here’s the AppleScript:

set _path to "/Users/chad.bailey/Dropbox/Elements/"

set _return to display dialog "Enter a title:" default answer "Title"
if button returned of _return is "OK" then
set _string to text returned of _return
    do shell script "echo \"# " & _string & "\\n\" >> \"" & _path & _string & ".txt\""
    do shell script "mate -a \"" & _path & _string & ".txt\""
end if

Seven 9s and 10s - Wynton Marsalis performs Paganini’s Moto Perpetuo...

Wynton Marsalis performs Paganini’s Moto Perpetuo Op 11.

4:33 seconds with nary a breath. Circular breathing is ridiculously difficult, and playing this transcription would be hard enough just based on the difficulty of the music itself, but combine the music with the circular breathing and you get the definition of a virtuosic performance.

Listen to this even if you don’t like classical music. Try to hold your breath the whole time. Good luck.

Give it a listen. Worth four and a half minutes of your time.

EDIT: What the Chinese lack in circular breathing, they make up for with armies of militarily-precise children.

Nissan GT-R - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In a review by Motor Trend editor Scott Kanemura, it was revealed that the GPS system fitted to the GT-R would remove the 180-kilometer per hour (112 mph) speed limiter when the car arrives at a race track, but only on tracks approved by Nissan.

I can't decide if this is totally awesome or totally Big-Brother-ish.

I’m getting this helpful error from Lotus Notes about every 15 seconds or so.
